Abstract
769,123. Lamp caps and holders. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Feb. 18, 1955 [Feb. 19, 1954], No. 4957/55. Class 38 (1). [Also in Group XXI] An adapter for installing a photo-flash lamp 17 in a socket adapted to receive a larger lamp comprises a metal shell 10 having bayonetpins 11 and containing a hollow insulating insert 13 in the base of which is mounted a double-ended coil spring contact 18. This contact has a central portion 19 of reduced diaameter which is held in an aperture in the insert by end portions 21, 23 of larger diameter. Portion 21 engages the central contact of a socket and portion 23 the central contact of lamp 17, the cap 16 of which has a circumferential groove 29 engaged by a latch 30 on a strip 26 projecting through a slot 31 in the wall of insert 13 and retaining the lamp in position as well as forming the outer contact of the socket part of the adapter. To eject lamp 17 a portion of strip 26 extending outside the adapter is pressed, thereby releasing latch 30 and allowing spring 23 to eject the lamp. Fig. 6 shows a socket formed integral with a reflector 51 and having a central spring contact 55 mounted in the socket wall 56 similarly to the contact 18 in the previous embodiment. A latch and contact strip 57 similar to strip 26 is also provided.
