Abstract

676,861. Caps and holders for discharge tubes. EDISON SWAN ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. March 22,1946 [Feb. 22,1945], No. 4441/45. Class 38 (i) The locking and locating means for the pins and sockets of a valve 1 which has a base 2 with pins 3 comprises, on a cylindrical shell 5, a radial projection 10 received by a key-way 41 in a tubular extension 39 on the valve-holder provided with a spring latch 43 which rides over the projection. The base has bosses 4b, 4c which serve to locate lugs 7 on the shell, and thereby the projection 10 with respect to the pins 3. In one form, Fig. 5, the shell secures an insulating disc 18 provided with a metal spigot 14a to the base. Alternatively, the spigot is directly riveted to the shell, Fig. 4 (not shown). In Fig. 6, the shell encloses the valve and has a cap 20 with a star-shaped aperture for the tubule 1a, as described in Specification 676,862, [Group XL (a)]. The spigot may also enclose the tubule when the valve is exhausted through the base, Fig. 11 (not shown), or be replaced by a long, thick, axial pin 9, Fig.2a. Fig. 3 shows an earthing-shell 12 located in a recess 11 and connected to a pin. In the valve-holder, Fig. 7, the extension 39 is located by ears 45, the spring 43 being positioned in a slot 42, in the key-way 41, which is also positioned by a projection 45a on the holder base 22. The spring is retained on the extension at 44. Sockets 34 are secured in recesses 23 by a disc 27 anchored at 29 by the shouldered tube 28 which has spigot contacts 28a. Chamfered guides 25 and guideholes 24 allow for misalignment of the pins 3.
