[Also in Group XL (a)] The residual gas pressure in an electric discharge tube is determined during manufacture or during subsequent operation, by measuring the positive ion current flowing in the opposite direction to the normal electron current, through an aperture in the cathode to a positive ion collector electrode behind the aperture (see Group XL (a)].
