Abstract

589,671. Caps and holders for discharge tubes. M-O VALVE CO., Ltd., and SMYTH, J. A. Jan. 15, 1945, No. 1166. [Class 38 (i)] A flat-base discharge tube has a metal cylinder 15 supported by a part of the envelope, and provided with a feather, keyway or other projection or recess 18 on or in its surface, the cylinder rim 16 securing an insulating disc 13 which has an insulating spigot 14 and apertures for the tube contacts 11. The cylinder is of greater diameter than the contacts-circle and the projection 18 cooperates with a recess 26 in a screening ring 25 surrounding the contact-apertures 20 on the tube holder 19. A spring ring 27 on the ring 25 engages a slot 29 in the cylinder 15 thereby preventing the accidental displacement of the tube. The screening may be enhanced by a metal barrier lying diametrically across the holder and connecting the ring 25 to the earthed bushing 23 which receives the spigot 14. In a modification, the tube is located by a projection on the disc 13 at a distance from the centre of the contacts-circle which is at least equal to the circle radius.
