Abstract

725,283. Double twist spindles. TEXTILE & CHEMICAL RESEARCH CO., Ltd. Jan. 12, 1953 [Jan. 15, 1952], No. 916/53. Addition to 681,562. Class 120 (2). An improvement in the double twist spindle assembly of the parent Specification comprises the provision of a multistage yarn tensioning and twist arresting mechanism consisting of a series of balls and cooperating annular members forming seats for said balls disposed in vertical axial alignment with the shaft of the spindle and magnetic means co-operating with one of said balls for magnetically holding the same against its seat. As shown a double conical sleeve 30 of non-magnetic material is disposed on the sleeve 22, which is journalled on the rotating shaft 10 and prevented from rotating therewith. The upper conical surface 31 forms a seat for ball 32 which is of magnetic material. An annular magnet 35 is positioned between shoulder 34 of member 30 and a soft vibration damping member 36 mounted on the end of sleeve 22. Mointed above the member 30 and housed in a cylindrical member 40 are two rings 44 and 45. The ring 44 is substantially wedgeshaped in section and has an upper hemispherical inner surface 48 serving as a seat for ball 49. The ring 45 is provided with a conical upper inner surface 51 forming a seat for a ball 52 and with a conical lower surface 53.
