722,657. Derricks. SCHAFER, G., and SCHAFER, O., [trading as KUGELFISCHER, G. SCHAFER & CO.]. Jan. 14, 1953 [Jan. 14, 1952], No. 1128/53. Classes 78 (4) and 78 (5). A ship's derrick comprises a boom controlled by ropes and pulleys and a stationary mast or other support in which an anti-friction bearing, for example a ball or roller bearing, is interposed between the outside of the mast or support and a housing supporting the rope pulleys on the derrick boom. As shown in Fig. 1, a housing 3 is supported on an annular bearing 2 at the top of the mast 1. The housing supports a pulley or pulleys for the rope or ropes used for luffing and hoisting. In an alternative form side arms may be pivoted to the housing. As shown in Fig. 3, the boom is pivoted to a lug 12 mounted on'the housing which is supported by antifriction bearings 9 on a member surrounding the mast 8. Alternatively the mountings on the mast may be applied laterally to the mast.
