Abstract

864,062. Jib cranes. NORTH THAMES GAS BOARD. July 15, 1957 [April 13, 1956] No. 11386/56. Classes 78 (4) and 78 (5). Ropes 14 (Fig. 1) passing between the head of the jib of a crane and sheaves 13 on the mast are held on the sheaves by pairs of grooved rollers 22, 23 (Fig. 2) carried by a pivoted and counter-weighted bracket 19 and disposed so that the rope passes over one roller and under the other to reach the sheave. The slewing and luffing crane illustrated has two ropes 14, 141 for hoisting and opening a grab, and the corresponding rollers 22, 23 and 22<SP>1</SP>, 23<SP>1</SP> are carried by a pair of shafts 20, 21 supported by opposed brackets 19, 191 from levers 17, 171 pivoted on the shaft 16 of the sheaves 13, 13<SP>1</SP>. The rollers are disposed so as to cause no appreciable deviation of the ropes 14, 14<SP>1</SP>. According to the Provisional Specification the invention may be applied to grab scrapers and other apparatus as well as to cranes; this subject-matter does not appear in the Complete Specification.
