783,131. Level-luffing jib cranes. MASCHINENFABRIK AUGSBURG - NURNBERG AKT.-GES. June 20, 1955 [June 19, 1954], No. 17767/55. Class 78 (4). The luffing rope 15 of a level luffing jib crane is operated through pulley tackle 11, 12, coupled to tackle 11a, 12a, operating the hoisting rope 20 so that luffing the jib causes compensating changes in the length of the hoisting rope to provide level luffing. The tackle is shown diagrammatically with the pulley tackles spaced, but in the two embodiments illustrated in the Specification the pulley tackles are formed by a single pair of sheave blocks. In one of these embodiments the luffing rope 15 is connected to a point on the jib at the opposite side of the jib pivot from the jib end pulley while in the other embodiment the luffing rope 15 passes over a pulley at the top of the tower and is secured adjacent the jib end pulley.
