Abstract

721,481. Endless scraper conveyers. MINING ENGINEERING CO., Ltd. March 26, 1953 [April 7, 1952], No. 8874/52. Class 78(1). In a scraper chain conveyer of the kind having a framework composed of end-to-end connected upper and lower pan sections, one end of a pan carries at one side locking means including a movable member engaging lugs protruding from adjacent pans in both upper and lower rows, and at the other side of that or another pan in the same row is provided a pocket adapted to receive lugs protruding from adjacent pans in both upper and lower rows to lock them together. As shown, each top pan consists of a base 1 and goaf-side 4 to which is detachably secured a face-side plate 3, each of these parts having fixed thereto angles 15, 16 respectively to trap the scraper chain. Alternatively an untrapped scraper chain trough may be used of one-piece construction. The side members each have a projection 12 at one end and a projection 12a at the other. The lower pans 2 have projections 9 mounted on their sides at one end only, the other end having a casting 7 on the goaf-side and a casting 8 in which slides a captive locking bolt on the face-side. The casting 7 is formed with two pockets, a shallow one in which the lug 12 on the goaf-side of the corresponding upper pan can be slid sideways, and a deeper one in which first the goaf-side lug 9 of an adjacent lower pan is slid sideways and then the goaf-side lug 12a of an adjacent upper pan is slid sideways. Corresponding open slots are formed in the casting 8 so that the corresponding face-side lugs 12, 9 and 12a of the corresponding upper pan, adjacent lower pan and adjacent upper pan respectively can be dropped after engagement of the goaf-side lugs in the casting 7. The locking bolt is then moved into locking position to lock the structure against both longitudinal and vertical relative movement of the pans. To prevent lateral movement between upper and lower pans, downwardly projecting lugs 18 are provided on the upper pans at each side to engage with slots formed by brackets 17 secured to the lower pans.
