Abstract

698,263. Endless conveyers. MINING ENGINEERING CO., Ltd. Nov. 2,1950. [Nov. 14, 1949] No. 25957/50. Divided out of 698,239. Class 78 (i). A scraper chain conveyer comprises sections which have separable top and bottom pans and which are interconnected by locking bars having portions of reduced cross-section which bars are movable longitudinally of the conveyer to lock together or release lugs extending from adjacent aligned pan sections. One suitable embodiment is the construction disclosed in Specification 698,239 which is there claimed differently. In another form allowing of the removal of any single upper trough section and thence any single lower section from the assembled conveyer, a U-bar 2 is secured to one end of each lower section 1 and the ends of the U-bar are turned outwards and cut away at the side adjacent the end of the section to form lugs 3. A U-bar 4 of heavier section is secured to the opposite end of each lower section and carries at each side a cradle 5 having two transverse pierced lugs 6, 7. The part of the cradle projecting from the section is recessed deeper than the rest to receive the lug 3 of the adjacent section, which is lowered into place. The lower sections are thus aligned and separately removable. Each end of each upper trough section carries a transverse bar 12 the ends of which are formed as lugs matching the lugs 3. After assembly of the scraper chain in the lower trough the upper sections are laid in place with the ends of bars 12 resting in the cradles, one of the bars 12 at each joint resting on the lugs 3, Fig. 4. The whole structure is locked by the sliding bolt 8 which passes through the pierced lugs 6, 7 and carries horizontal keys 9, 10 which are brought into and out of register with the ends of bars 12 in the extreme positions so that in the locking position keys 9, 10 lie above the ends of bars 12 and prevent their removal. It is only necessary to unlock the joints on one side to remove a section as the upper trough section can then be tilted, and withdrawn laterally and the corresponding lower section removed at one end in similar manner. The sheet metal forming the actual troughs is bent over the bars 2 and 12 at the ends of the sections to ensure a smooth joint. Where the upper trough sections comprise separable side pieces 15, Fig. 6, these are attached to the lower trough sections by lugs 16 thereon engaging in brackets 15 on the lower sections at points adjacent the members 2 and 12. Specification 666,751 also is referred to.
