Abstract
1,110,861. Scraper chain conveyer frame-works. RICHARD SUTCLIFFE ENGINEERING SYSTEMS Ltd., L. BAINES, and P. N. METCALFE. 26 April, 1966 [20 April, 1965; 27 April, 1965; 7 May, 1965; 6 July, 1965], Nos. 16626/65, 17676/65, 19379/65 and 28591/65. Heading B8A. A framework for a double chain scraper conveyer comprises a plurality of interconnected units each comprising a pair of substantially U-shaped side members 2 with open sides facing each other and a deck plate 1 attached to and extending between the webs of the side elements 2. A locating plate 16 with lugs 17 engages slots 13, 14 in the sides of the deck plates 1 adjacent their ends to couple adjacent units together but still permits limited longitudinal movement and vertical and horizontal angular movement between the units. The ends of the deck plates 1 have respective upper and lower steps 12, 11 to allow overlapping of the units when assembled. The deck plate 1 is attached to the side member 2 at the apex 4 of a triangular web 3, which web 3 is cut away adjacent the ends of the side members to form a shelf 9 on which the locking plates 16 rest. The locking plates 16 are held in place by triangular brackets 18, 19 in telescopic relation to each other and detachably secured to their respective ends of the side members to form a substantially continuous surface with the web 3 for supporting and guiding the chains of the scraper conveyer. Furthermore the webs of the respective ends of the side members have a tongue 7 and a slot 8 for further engagement between adjacent units. In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 5, of Provisional Specification 16626/65 (not shown), the lugs (17) of the locking plate (16) engage lateral projections (22) on the side of the deck plate 1. In a further embodiment, Figs. 6, 9, 10 of Provisional Specification 16626/65 (not shown), locking plates (61), with projections (62) for engaging slots (57), (58) in the ends of adjacent plates, are detachably secured to one end of the side members (53) and rest in L-shaped brackets (54) to lie flush with the top of the deck plate (51). The brackets (54) extend along the length of the units and are attached to the edge of the deck plate (51) and to the web (53) of the side member (52). In a further embodiment, Figs. 1-5 of Provisional Specification 17676/65 (not shown), the ends of the deck plates (51B) are formed from a thicker more wear-resistant material than that of the rest of the deck plates (51A). Further slots (66) in the sides of the deck plates (51A) engage nuts (70) in threaded engagement with bolts (69) mounting skirt plates (68) on the side members 52. In a further embodiment, Figs. 2, 3, 4 of Provisional Specification 19379/65 (not shown) the ends of both the deck-plate and the side members are formed of a more wear resistant material than the remainder of the plates and members. The bracket (54) is replaced by a flat strip (71A) extending beneath the locking plate (61) to support the same and a further flat strip (71B) extends beneath the nuts for the skirt plates (68). In a still further embodiment, Figs. 1 and 2 of Provisional Specification 28591/65 (not shown), only one end of the deck plate (51) is stepped for overlap between adjacent units and the locking plate (81) is detachably secured to the tongue (56) of one side member and has lateral projections (82) for engagement with the tongue and slot (56), (56A) of the side member of an adjacent unit. The locking plate is attached to the side member by a bolt (89) passing through the side member and the locking plate and engaging a nut (86) located in a recess formed between the end of the deck-plate of the unit to which the plate is attached and a cut-away portion (84) in the deck plate of the adjacent unit.
