Abstract
718,748. Transformers and inductors. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. July 28, 1952 [July 27, 1951], No. 19013/52. Class 38(2) Stationary electrical induction apparatus 1 of the kind having a winding comprising a number of axially and radially spaced co-axial layers 2 each comprising one or more turns has the end layers of the winding supported by additional members 4 disposed between the normally provided spacing members 3 so as to prevent distortion of these layers by the magnetic forces set up in the winding. The additional supporting members 2 may be held by the layers themselves or by bolts 8 which pass through the members and which if desired may be secured to a fixed part 7 of the apparatus. Each supporting member may be of the same circumferential dimension or this dimension may progressively increase towards the endmost layer of the winding. They may be channel shaped, cruciform shaped or ribbed. Alternatively the normal spacing members and the additional members may be combined. The extra mechanical strength in the end layers may alternatively be provided by providing these layers with a greater cross-sectional area, or with a shape-such as an I-section-of greater rigidity.
