Abstract
884,082. Electromagnets; inductors and transformers. UNITED STATES ATOMIC ENERGY COMMISSION. Jan. 15, 1960 [Feb. 12, 1959], No. 1569/60. Classes 35 and 38 (2). A coil for an electromagnet, e.g. in a particle accelerator, or for an inductor or transformer, is spirally wound from interleaved conducting strip 12, preferably copper, and insulation 14, the former having transverse grooves 13 which define coolant channels. The grooves are shown as being straight and parallel to each other, but they need not be so. In the embodiment described (an electromagnet) the coil is enclosed in a fluidtight casing, with forced oil or air as the coolant, and with insulated rings and radial arms to ensure its even distribution.
