Abstract
1307154 Inductors and transformers W ZUMTOBEL 19 April 1971 [5 Feb 1970] 20981/71 Heading HIT A transformer or inductor has a laminar core comprising a central core portion 6<SP>1</SP> and an outer core portion 3<SP>1</SP> which has one or more incisions 9<SP>1</SP> cut in it at positions where there is a substantially zero flux density when a coil carried on the central core portion is energized, the incisions receiving the bent over edges 7<SP>1</SP> of a sheet of material 8<SP>1</SP> which acts as a casing for the device. The sheet material may be of highly conducting material such as aluminium or copper sheet so as to clamp any leakage fields, or of a ferromagnetic material such as iron which acts as a magnetic shield. A multilayer casing may be employed comprising a layer of highly conductive material next to the iron core with an outer layer of ferromagnetic material. The connection leads to the windings may be carried in the ducts formed by the incisions, the top of the ducts being closed by an insert of a suitable material or by suitably shaping the laminµ (Figs. 5 and 7, not shown). The outer core portion laminµ, may be formed from two C-shaped laminµ which abut a suitably shaped central core lamination (Figs. 3 and 4, not shown) and several different inductors may be housed in the same sheet of casing material (Fig 6, not shown).
