Abstract

879,730. Transformers. BROWN, BOVERI & CIE A.G. Oct. 21, 1959 [Oct. 21, 1958], No. 35712/59. Class 38 (2). Transformer cores are built up from a number of two limbed part core members 1-8 (Fig. 1) each made from magnetic strip having a preferred direction of magnetization, limbs of two or more core members being positioned together to form one or more composite limbs of the built-up core and the width of the magnetic strip used is so varied that the cross-section of the composite core limbs are approximately circular. The limbs or yokes of the part core members are cut to enable the coils to be fitted. The gaps in the composite limbs can be used as cooling slots or may be filled with heatresisting insulating material. The composite limbs may be held together by ring bandages, and the part cores themselves can be held together by clamping means or glue. One of the part cores may be omitted or made smaller to accommodate the leads. The part cores may be divided longitudinally by heat resisting insulating material 39 (Fig. 9) such as glass, asbestos wool or metallic oxide powder. The part cores may be divided longitudinally (Fig. 8, not shown). Various composite core arrangements having two or more composite legs are described (Figs. 4-7, not shown).
