Abstract
704,277. Transformers. LICENTIA PATENTVERWALTUNGS-GES. Oct. 5, 1951 [Oct. 5, 1950], No. 23262/51. Class 38 (2) A dry self-cooled electric transformer having a pressure resistant casing 2 is characterized in that the casing has a tubular shape and is arranged with its longitudinal axis in a horizontal plane, the casing being provided with external cooling ribs 3 disposed in planes perpendicular to the longitudinal axis and internal cooling ribs 3 disposed parallel to the longitudinal axis, the limbs 4 of the magnetic core of the transformer being arranged transversely and the yokes 5 longitudinally with respect to the longitudinal axis of the casing 2 thus to enhance the rate of heat dissipation of the transformer. The cooling ribs 3 are formed of heat conducting material and are welded edgewise on to the casing, the outer ribs being preferably in the form of a band wound edgewise around the casing. An external longtudinal rib 14 is provided for lifting purposes and sled runners 13 for transportation purposes. The casing contains air or gas which may be under pressure and may also contain an open gap for protection against fire damp when the transformer is used in explosive atmospheres. The limbs 4 of the transformers may be of oval section to utilize the available space in the casing to the greatest extent and the coils 6 formed in pancake fashion to enhance the heat dissipation of the transformer. The insulation used in the transformer may be of heat resistant material, such as glass, so as to allow the transformer to work at high temperatures.
