Abstract
Magnetic sheet material has a thin insulating coating consisting of vermiculite and magnesium oxide. The latter has a specific gravity of about 3.58 and comprises about 2 per cent. Bentonite may be added with a flux such as feldspar. Two examples are: (1) vermiculite 49 per cent, bentonite 49 per cent and magnesium oxide 2 per cent; and (2) vermiculite 38 per cent, bentonite 55 per cent, feldspar 5 per cent and magnesium oxide 2 per cent. The mixture is added to water and sprayed on to the sheet material which is then dried and annealed. The laminations may be used for electric transformers and motors.
