Abstract

778,149. Covering cores. MOSER-GLASER & CO. AKT.-GES. Jan. 28, 1955 [Feb. 5, 1954], No. 2626/55. Class 109. [Also in Group XXXV] An electric transformer has at least one of its windings-say a secondary winding 13-its associated cooling channels 15 containing a cooling and impregnating fluid, and at least part of the leads 19, 20 to the winding enveloped with an electric insulation consisting of a wound-on dielectric material 16, the whole being enclosed in a fitting metal sheath 22. The cooling and impregnating fluid is supplied through the leads 19, 20 which are hollow and the fluid may be a fluorohydrocarbon in either a liquid or gaseous state, sulphur hexafluoride or other suitable gas. The fluid may be pumped around a closed circuit and may be under pressure. The dielectric material 16 is wound on the winding by a machine comprising a number of drums 30 of insulating strip material 31 carried by an endless belt 29, the insulating material enveloping the leads being wound on by hand and continuous with the insulating material enveloping the winding. The endless belt 29 is arranged around and through the winding 28 such that as it moves the insulating material 31 on the drums 30 is wound around the winding 28. The endless belt is arranged to be openable at 35 and means are provided to produce relative movement between the belt 29 and the winding 28 about the winding axis 34. The primary winding may be similarly insulated and placed within the fitting metal sheath.
