Abstract

962,222. Transformers and inductors. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Oct. 27, 1960 [Oct. 29, 1959], No. 36758/59. Heading H1T. In an inductive winding such as the H.V. winding of a transformer, formed from strip conductors which are bare or are thinly coated with phosphate or enamel, adjacent conductor turns 10, 10 are separated by a continuous insulating strip 11 so arranged that cooling ducts are formed between the strip and the turns. The strip may be a corrugated material such as impregnated fibreboard, conductor turns 10, 10 resting in recesses 13, cooling duct 20 being thereby formed. In a modification the strip is uniformly spaced from adjacent turns, there being moulded to it at intervals spacers of resin or other insulating material, Fig. 2 (not shown). Alternatively, the spacers may be of paper strips wound around the conductor turns, Fig. 3 (not shown).
