Abstract
812,162. Transformers. FERRANTI Ltd. June 17, 1957 [March 20, 1956], No. 8584/56. Class 38 (2). In a transformer having a wound magnetic core 10 the limbs of which carry windings 11, cooling members comprise metal half sleeves 12, 16 enclosing the windings and having projections 15 or 23 in thermal contact, directly or indirectly with a heat-dissipating casing 20. As shown, bars 17 contact the wings 15 and the assembly is held together by bolts 18. The half sleeves, which are of aluminium alloy, are separated by insulation or, as shown, an air gap to avoid forming a short-circuited turn. The casing 20 of aluminium alloy may have a blackened outer surface. Extra half sleeves may be disposed to separate primary and secondary windings or different layers of the same winding. The assembled transformer is vacuum impregnated with varnish and baked.
