Abstract
857,269. Inductances and transformers. UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY. March 20, 1959 [April 3, 1958], No. 10716/58. Class 38 (2). Close coupling between the windings of transformers, inductances and memory elements and their magnetic cores is obtained by forming the core as a thin strip or deposited film 21 (Fig. 2), on a copper rod 1<SP>1</SP>, so that eddy currents in rod 1<SP>1</SP>, which may be silver-plated, tend to confine the flux produced by current pulses in tape winding 4 to the film core 21. Winding 4 is insulated by paper layer 3 and further windings interleaved with layers of paper or other insulating material can be added. Printed circuit windings or wire windings may be used and the magnetic core may be formed by a sheet of nickel-iron alloy wrapped round the former to make almost a complete turn (Fig. 1, not shown). Alternatively the former may be ring-shaped, the layer of magnetic material on the conducting ring former being of low conductivity or being slotted or formed with a gap at 51 (Fig. 3).
