Class 135 In a manually-actuated valve comprising a valve cone 2 operable in an axial direction by a spindle 1 secured to the cone by nuts 3, 4 and formed with sharp-edged steps 2a engageable with a comp'ementary coned smooth seating surface 6, the sharp-edged cone is made of a harder material than its seat, e.g. brass or bronze if the seat is of synthetic resin, or stainless steel if the seat is of brass or bronze. In a modification, the cone may be made smooth and the seat stepped in which case the seat is made of the harder material. The cone is arranged so that the controlled fluid tends to urge it towards its closed position.
