712,470. Railway fluid pressure brakes. ATELIERS DES CHARMILLES SOC. ANON. Dec. 23, 1952 [Jan. 8, 1952], No. 32563/52. Class 103(1) In a triple or distributer valve for compressed air brakes for railway vehicles the equalizing valve unit AV is so constructed as to prevent overcharge of the control reservoir S. The valve unit comprises a central member 1 carried at one end on a diaphragm 2 subject to brake cylinder and atmospheric pressure in chambers 3 and 4 respectively. Its other end has a fluid-tight seal 6 with the housing and carries an extension 7 that bears upon a valve 8 that controls communication between chamber 12 at brake pipe pressure and a calibrated nozzle 14 leading to the control reservoir S. Normally spring 9 above diaphragm 2 depresses the valve member 1 sufficiently to keep valve 8 lifted off its seat 11. During a braking operation brake cylinder pressure acting below diaphragm 2 keeps the valve body 1 raised sufficiently to ensure that the spring 10 keeps valve member 8 seated and the control reservoir passage 14 is thus cut off from further charging.
