668,503. Fluid-pressure brakes. WESTING- HOUSE BRAKE & SIGNAL CO., Ltd. April 24, 1950 [Dec. 27, 1949], No. 10044/50. Class 103 (i). A distributer valve assembly for fluid-pressure braking apparatus has a separate control chamber charging valve device comprising a casing 10 divided into three chambers by two coaxial diaphragms 22 and 25. The first end chamber 26 is placed in communication with a source of fluid under pressure during a brake application and with the brake cylinder during release, the middle chamber is in permanent communication by port 19 with a source of pressure for charging the control chamber through port 17 controlled by valve 18, and the second end chamber 20 is permanently at atmospheric pressure. A common stem 24 extending between the diaphragms 22 and 25 has an arm 27 which engages the charging valve 18 to open same, as result of change of pressure in the chamber 26, the operation of the valve device being characterized in that the diaphragms 22 and 25 are of equal area and are biased by a spring 21 contained in the second end chamber towards a position in which the valve 18 is open.
