368,823. Fluid - pressure brakes. INDIA RUBBER, GUTTA PERCHA & TELEGRAPH WORKS CO., Ltd., Aldwych House, Aldwych, and AVERY, W. L., of India Rubber, Gutta Percha & Telegraph Works Co., Silvertown, both in London. Dec. 10, 1930, No. 37257. [Class 103 (i).] Means for. adjusting the capacity of a fluid pressure brake system comprises a receptacle of adjustable capacity communicating with the system and means such as a spring for resisting the flow of fluid into and for expelling it from the receptacle when the pressure in the system is increased and diminished respectively. As shown, the receptacle 15 communicates by passage 23 with a master cylinder 10 containing a piston 11 adapted to force fluid through a conduit 24 to a brake or brakes. The receptacle comprises a diaphragm 18 urged downwardly by a spring 20 and its capacity is adjusted by a screw stop 22 against which the diaphragm abuts when pressure is established in the system. The device is particularly applicable to brake systems such as described in Specification 355,818 comprising two or more master cylinders and pistons operated by a common lever and adapted to supply pressure fluid each to a brake or series of brakes and serves to compensate for inequalities of volume in the several fluid systems so that equal pressures are established in the systems when the lever is operated.
