Abstract

539,895. Fluid-pressure braking systems. ASSOCIATED EQUIPMENT CO.. Ltd., and PRIDDLE, A. T. C. March 23, 1940, No. 5367. [Class 103 (i)] In order to protect a brak ing system, operated by com pressed fluid, against the effects of leakage the supply of fluid to a defective uni or units is automatically cu off by a member acted upor by the pressure fluid. A valve device shown in Fig. 1 com prises a flexible diaphragm c clamped between body mem. bers a, b to form two chambers supplied with fluid from a common passage f to feed brake cylinders connected to ports o, p, in bosses k, l, either of the ports on occurrence of leakage in its associated part of the braking system, being obturated by the diaphragm moving, under the difference of pressure in the chamber produced by leakage in one part of the system, against the face of the boss and being retained there by the reduction of the effective area by sealing of the diaphragm against the face of the boss. Four bosses, of which the ports are closed in pairs may be provided. In place of the diaphragm may be used a sliding disc-like member or piston movable axially between the bosses and provided with a light spring for retaining it in mid-position. Specification 361,532 is referred to.
