Abstract

728,890. Rotary plate valves. MILES & PARTNERS (LONDON), Ltd., J. Dec. 16, 1953, No. 35110/53. Class 135. In a rotary plate valve as described in Specifications 681,844 and 681,845 the clamping and releasing means for moving the valve seats 21, 22, Fig. 2, towards and away from the valve plate 23 are arranged as a single unit disposed wholly on the same side of the valve plate as the pressure ring 20. As shown, six units are equally spaced circumferentially around the valve, each unit comprising a bridle 32, 32A, Fig. 3, connected at one end to a frame 14 carrying a pipe 12 secured to the conduit 10 and at its other end to a hydraulic ram 35. A spring 33 compressed between abutment plates having spigots 46, 44 engaging recesses in a member 48 fixed to the frame 14 and a bolt 45 screwed in a flange 34 of the pressure ring 20 urges the seat 21 towards the seat 22 and the plate 23 to effect clamping of the plate. To release the plate, pressure liquid is supplied to the ram 35 to move its piston 39 to the left and hence the pressure ring 20 carrying the seat 21. The disposition of the units wholly on one side of the plate 23 permits them to be located closer into the valve and the units to be more effective in clamping and thus reducing leakage.
