Abstract

712,436. Gas-blast circuit-breakers. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Dec. 12, 1951 [Dec. 21, 1950], No. 29106/51. Addition to 666,834. Class 38(5) The breaker comprises a main contact assembly 15 and a series isolating assembly 10, a resistance R being connected across the assembly 15, which comprises a fixed conducting member 23 engaged by spring-urged contacts 21, as in Specification 583,346. Member 23 is connected via a support 6 and contacts 31 with a conducting member 29 cooperating with further contacts 21. When pressure gas is suppled through aperture 38, contacts 21 of assembly 15 open to put resistance R in circuit in series with assembly 10, contacts 21 of which are subsequently opened by the blast. After the arcs have been extinguished, member 29 is moved down, by means such as that of Specification 549,756, so as to insert a large isolating gap. During this movement, the blast is cut off and the contacts 21 restore. Specification 561,394 also is referred to.
