709,298. Universal joints. BISHOP, R. Oct. 31, 1952 [Oct. 31, 1951], No. 25500/51. Class 80 (2) In a universal joint comprising an intermediate spherical member 3 bored at right-angles to receive pivots 7 projecting inwardly from fork members 6, or comprising an intermediate block with outwardly-projecting pins at right-angles pivoting through needle roller bearings in recesses in the fork members, each fork member 6 is in two identical halves each providing one limb of the fork and an externally-threaded semi-cylindrical shank part 5, the halves being held in assembled relation by a sleeve 2 threaded on the shank parts. Conical surfaces 9, 10 apply clamping pressure and the sleeves 2 may be additionally secured by cross pins 7. A passage 12 for lubricants is provided.
