878,997. Universal joints. SCHROTER, K., and WALTERSCHEID-MULLER, B. Sept. 11, 1959, No. 31136/59. Class 80 (2). A needle roller bearing 3 between radial trunnion pins 1 and bearing bushes 2 in the forks of a Hooke's type universal joint has the trunnion pin 1, or bushes 2, or both, slightly tapered to form an outwardly divergent clearance, so that under load the slight elastic transverse deformation of the forks causes the load bearing surfaces of the pins and bushes to become parallel and the rollers to be uniformly loaded along their length.
