Abstract

731,973. Universal joints. MOLLART ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., and MOLLART, K. A. W. Dec. 11, 1953 [Jan. 9, 1953], No. 747/53. Class 80 (2). In a universal joint wherein the two terminal members 10, 10a are formed with pairs of integral jaws 15, 15a having ribs 17, 17a engaging circumferential grooves 19, 19a provided at right-angles in an intermediate ball 12, the free ends of the pairs of jaws are connected by bolts 42, 42a so as to prevent spreading of the jaws under load. Three sets of rollers are interposed between each rib and its groove, namely one set of cylindrical rollers 36 between the rib and the bottom of the groove and two side sets of tapered or cylindrical rollers 24, 25, the three sets being located in a sheet-metal cage 26 provided with end flanges 30, 31 which co-operate with the ends of the rib to limit the arcuate movement of the cage.
