652,986. Pipe joints. MOTOR-COLUMBUS AKT.-GES. FUR ELEKTRISCHE UNTERNEHMUNGEN. Dec. 20, 1948, No. 32835. Convention date, Dec. 18, 1947. [Class 99(i)] In joints for vertical steel masts, metal rings c, d, which are secured in an undisplaceable manner as by welding, engage in grooves g, h, of the pipe ends a, b or the sleeve m which overlaps the ends and may be in two halves. The ends may be thickened. In modifications (1) the pipes are of different diameter and resilient split rings engage in oppositely disposed grooves, Fig. 5 (not shown) (2) the grooves are formed by rolling Fig. 6 (not shown), and (3) the rings are formed by a rod of copper or soft iron inserted transversely through an aperture of the sleeve and into oppositely disposed grooves; alternatively, the rings comprise blocks or balls connected together in a chain-like manner.
