Abstract

705,009. Universal joints. BORG-WARNER CORPORATION. Feb. 20, 1952 [Feb. 21, 1951], No. 4479/52. Class 80 (2) In a universal joint comprising forked mem, bers A, B, connected by a four-armed spider .C, the arms 14 of one member A have holes 15 receiving roller-bearing cups E locked in position by spring washers 19. Each arm 23 of the fork B has an arcuate recess 24 and flat surfaces 26 to receive a correspondingly shaped bearing member D which is secured to the fork by a pair of bolts 31 locked by a plate 32. Flanged shoulders 33 at the radial outer extremity of each arm 23 engage thrust surfaces 34 on the bearing members D. The sides of the arms 23 have bevelled faces 45, 46, to facilitate relative angular movement of the forks. In a modification the shoulders 33 are of arcuate form.
