Abstract

592,546. Conveyer chains. KEEN, C. P. May 14, 1945, No. 12105. [Class 24] [Also in Group XXX] A conveyer chain comprises pairs of links 2 and 3 interconnected by articulating means 1, each providing a universal joint and consisting of a yoke member 4 with a square bore 7 and with trunnion-like extensions 5 and a rocker member 8 having a central enlarged part of rectangular cross-section and trunnionlike extensions 9, held in position in the yoke member 4 by a rivet 11 through aligned apertures. Self-oiling wheels are mounted on each of the extensions 5, 5, 9, 9 and the path of the chain determined by a guideway 20. The chain is thus rotatable about two intersecting axes at right angles to each other and the inclined opposed faces of the member 8 allow in addition rotation about the pivot 11. Conveyer platforms may be attached to screw-threaded extensions at one or both ends of either the rocker 8 or the yoke 4 as indicated. In a modification the articulating member is solid and cruciform as in Fig. 4 providing rotation about two axes. The two types may be used in conjunction as in Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown).
