Abstract
800,408. Universal joints. REMAX, Ltd., BELLOMO, A., and DUMONT, J. B. C. July 10, 1956 [July 15, 1955], No. 20535/55. Class 80 (2). In a universal joint comprising a plate 5 on one member 2 located between the arms 3, 4 of a fork on the other member 1, the adjacent faces of the plate and arms have symmetrically arranged grooves 8, 11, 12, 13 intersecting in the plane through the centre of the.joint and bisecting the angle between the axes of the members 1, 2, the grooves being engaged by abutment members 16, two on each side of the plate 5, each of which comprises a pair of part-cylindrical pads 18, 19 with abutting flat faces 20, 21. The pads are relatively rotatable about an axis normal to the flat faces, such as by a bush 33 or a ball engaging in recesses in the flat faces or by a pin or bolt. Oil grooves 35, 36, 37 are provided in the cylindrical and flat faces and through the pads. A bolt 6 passing through the fork has a spherical portion engaging a spherically-surfaced recess or slot in the plate 5. Specification 760,293 is referred to.
