Abstract
PURPOSE:To enable the increase in the joint angle between two shafts and that in the displacement in the axial directions at a universal joint, by providing two joint elements which can be not only curved but also displaced in the axial directions. CONSTITUTION:A coupling member 6 provided with two pairs of three trunnions 7 oriented in convergent directions and partly-cylindrical grooved members 4, 5 are connected to each other through fulcrum members 8 which have spherical surfaces and are mounted on the trunnions 7 one by one and can rotate and slide, so that two universal joints are constructed at the two connected portions. One end of each trunnion 7 is secured on the coupling member 6. The other ends of the trunnions 7 on each side of the coupling member 6 are coupled to each other and shaped as spherical surfaces. Pushing mechanism 9, 10 including springs 13, 14 are provided in the axial sections of the grooved members 4, 5. The tips 9A, 10A of the pushing mechanism 9, 10 push those 73 of the trunnions 7 from both sides to balance the position of the coupling member 6. According to this constitution, the connecting angles of the joints and the allowable displacement in the axial directions can be made large. Therefore, the universal joints can be applied to parallel shafts as well.
