Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent concentration of a load while a partially spherical element touches a trunnion, by increasing the inside diameter of both ends of the partially spherical element, in a universal joint whose partially spherical element provided with three trunnions is engaged with a groove formed in the member of the other side shaft. CONSTITUTION:The trunnion 6, which makes an acute angle with the other shaft, is combined with a drum element 3 which is provided on the shaft 1. The partially spherical element 8 is mounted swivelably and slidably on the trunnion 6. This partially spherical element 8 is engaged with the groove 7 of a groove member 4 of the other side shaft 2. The inside diameter of both ends of the partially spherical element 8 is formed some larger than the inside diameter of central portion thereof. Consequently, even if the trunnion 6 is deformed by the load, the load is transmitted dispersedly along the inside diameter of the partially spherical element 8, then the concentrated load does not occur in the partially spherical element 8.
