Abstract
596,413. Sucker rod assemblies. THATCHER, A. J., THATCHER, G. R., and BRIXEY, I. A. C., [trading as NEW MENDIP ENGINEERING CO.]. June 21, 1945, No. 15850. [Class 85] A sucker rod assembly for deep well pumping comprises rod sections 1, Fig. 1, formed of tubes closed at the ends by plugs 2 welded thereto, the tubes also being swaged into grooves 4 in the plugs ; the rod sections connected by members having threaded shanks 6 engaging holes in the plugs 2 and locked thereto by nuts 11 and split-pins, the members having a central boss 5 from which project bifurcated carriers 7 in which are secured plain faced rollers 8 for engagement with the rising main. The threaded shanks 6 may be provided on the plugs 2 and enter holes in the connecting members. In another form, Fig. 3, each connecting member comprises a pair of aligned frames 12 relatively offset by a right angle and each carrying a plain faced roller 13. The tubes and connecting members may be of corrosionproofed metal, and the rollers of metal, fibre or other composition.
