691,079. Universal joints. BORG-WARNER CORPORATION. Dec. 22, 1950 [Jan. 3, 1950], No. 31253/50. Class 80 (ii). [Also in Group XXXIV] Lubrication of the bearings' 8 of a universal joint is effected by centrifugal action on lubricant stored in intersecting bores 21 in the spider body 7. A. bearing cup 9. retained in the yoke 5 by a spring clip 19 has a threaded aperture 22.in which is screwed an elongate lubricating fitting A. The fitting A has a head 25 adapted to be coupled for filling purposes to a hose. or pipe connected to lubricant under pressure, and a tubular portion 28 which extends into bore 21. The annular clearance between the portion 28 and the bore 21 serves as a passage through which lubricant passes under centrifugal force for lubricating the bearings 8.
