Couplings, disconnectible; ball - and socket joints; with valves. - In a pipe coupling, more particularly for lubrication systems, one coupling member b on the lubricant supply pipe p is provided with a claw b<6> adapted to engage the head of the usual nipple a on the part to be lubricated by a lateral and angular movement, and engagement of said member is arranged to produce an axial thrust to open a valve in the member b. The coupling member b, Fig. 1, is hollow and is provided internally with a spring-pressed piston land a sliding valve c, so arranged that when connection with the nipple is made, the piston l and valve c are raised to bring orifices c<3> in said valve opposite ports k<2> formed in the member b and communicating with the lubricant inlet tube p. During disconnection, the pressure of the lubricant and the valve spring e acts to push the piston and valve downwardly so that the channels c<3> no longer coincide with the ports k<2>. The inlet tube p is provided with a ball-end c, adapted to be held in a side orifice b<1> on the coupling b by means of a nut q, fluid-tightness being secured by packing n, while the piston l is fitted with a washer d adapted to bear on the nipple a during lubricating. In a modification, Fig. 4, the piston member t is confined between a leather packing d and a screwed washer s, while the sliding valve is replaced by a ball valve u. Further, the claw b<6> is arranged on the side opposite to that of the tube p, while the latter is screwed directly on the coupling band is connected to the pump v by a ball-and-socket joint. The angular movement of the coupling member b, above referred to, may take place automatically when the conduit p is pushed laterally.
