Abstract

166,001. Marks, E. C. R., (Rhode Island Machine & Tool Co.). May 3, 1920. Couplings, disconnectible; with valves.-In a device for connecting a nozzle 18 of a grease-gun to a nipple 10 of a grease-cup, in which the nozzle surrounds the nipple and is provided with radially-movable balls 20 coacting with a groove in the nipple, a sleeve 21 is mounted to slide on the exterior of the nozzle and is held by a spring 22 in locking position. The coupling is released by moving the sleeve 21 into a position in which a recessed portion is brought opposite the balls 20. When uncoupled, the nozzle is closed by a spring-pressed plunger 25 mounted in the nozzle and having a collar 26 and washer 29, passages 31, 32 in the plunger being closed by the wall of the nozzle. When coupled, the plunger is moved into a position permitting passage of grease through the passages 81, 32. The plunger has a conical end coacting with the nipple to make a tight joint and opening a spring-pressed ball valve 12 fitted in the nipple.
