Abstract

709,129. Magnetrons. ENGLISH ELECTRIC VALVE CO., Ltd. May 30, 1952 [July 13, 1951], No. 16731/51. Class 39(1) In a multi-cavity magnetron of the " rising sun " unstrapped type, the mouths of the smaller cavities facing one end space are closed off, and tuning is provided by varying the position of a member relative to the end of the anode block where the smaller cavities are closed. The effect of closing off the ends of the smaller cavities is stated to increase the tuning range. The anode block shown in Fig. 2 has secured to it a plate of the form shown in Fig. 3 for closing the ends of the smaller cavities. The smaller cavities may be closed at both ends of the anode block, and tuning members may be provided at each end and arranged to be actuated either together or in succession. A magnetron in which the smaller cavities are' closed at one end of the anode block, and all the cavities are closed at the other end, is referred to. The tuning mechanism as shown in Fig. 1, consists of an axially movable tube 5 carrying the tuning plate 4. The tube 5 is also the magnetron exhaust tube and is sealed off in the usual way at 5a. The envelope is completed by a flexible bellows 6 and represents a magnetic pole-piece. According to the Provisional Specification the turning mechanism of Fig. 1 may be applied to multi-cavity magnetrons in general.
