Abstract
708,499. Projectile fuzes. LIPTON, L. Jan. 8, 1953 [Sept. 22, 1952], No. 23745/52. Class 9(1) A fuze for bombs or projectiles is provided with a safety device comprising a fork d which holds the striker e in the retracted position by means of a plunger f influenced by a spring g and locked by a safety cap c screwed on to the body a of the fuze. Fixed to the striker is a collar i grooved to receive the fork d and having an inclined upper surface which faces the inclined surface of a collar j loosely mounted on the striker. Thus if the striker should be forced in the operative direction with the fork in position impact of the inclined surfaces of the collars would have a shearing or bending effect on the striker. On removal of the safety cap c which has a wing c<SP>1</SP>, the plunger f moves outwardly withdrawing the fork d and freeing the striker e on which is a membrane m adapted to be reversed by air pressure. The inclined surfaces of the collars may be slotted to facilitate the shearing of the striker.
