957,956. Hollow charge projectiles and fuzes therefor. NORD AVIATION SOC. NATIONALE DE CONSTRUCTIONS AERONAUTIQUES. Dec. 19, 1961 [Dec. 26, 1960], No. 45459/61. Heading F3A. A hollow-charge projectile is provided with means for causing detonation of the charge at a distance from the base of the conical cavity of the charge to the target of the order of four times the diameter of the said base. Various embodiments are described. In Fig. 2 a projecting rod has a direct action spring contact which causes operation of an electric detonator via leads 5, 6. Alternatively, the contact may be momentum operated on impact and the rod 3 may be detachable from ogive 2. In another embodiment the rod 3 is retractable against the action of a spring and is held in the retracted position prior to launching by a safetypin, Fig. 5, or an inertia element which sets back on launching. Alternatively, the rod may be forced to the extended position on launching by a compressed-air mechanism.
