Abstract

908,499. Stepped voltage generating circuits. ASSOCIATED ELECTRIC INDUSTRIES Ltd. Aug. 4, 1961 [Aug. 16, 1960], No. 28314/60. Class 40 (6). In a stepped voltage generator in which a capacitor C1 is alternately charged and discharged, the discharge being into a storage capacitor C2 across which a stepped time-base waveform is generated, a PNPN diode is connected across the storage capacitor C2 and arranged to trigger and discharge it when a predetermined voltage is reached. Capacitor C1 is charged by the negative excursion of the square input pulse through diode D1 and then discharged by diode D2 during the positive excursion of the input pulse into capacitor C2, the voltage across C2 being applied to the grid of valve V1 such that a rising staircase waveform is generated across cathode resistor R. When a predetermined voltage across the capacitor C2 is reached the PNPN diode triggers and discharges this capacitor. In a second embodiment, Fig. 2 (not shown), a falling staircase waveform is generated. In this case diodes D1, D2 and the PNPN diode are reversed in polarity and a Zener diode is included between the cathode of the valve and the cathode resistor. An application of the circuits is to lock the frame and line scan generators in television apparatus, a line scan occurring at each step and the total waveform constituting a frame scan.
