707,717. Coated paper &c. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP CELLULOSE PRODUCTEN. July 18, 1952 [Aug. 14, 1951], No. 18166/52. Class 96 To paper, cardboard &c. is applied a coating of one or more alkali-soluble cellulose ethers, preferably hydroxy ethers, and preferably mixed with acid-resistant pigments, e.g. China clay or barium sulphate, the ether being precipitated by an acidic substance, e.g. sulphuric acid, the coating being then washed as by spraying with water, any remaining acid neutralized as by a 2 to 3 per cent. solution of sodium carbonate, and the paper &c. may then be again sprayed with water until it shows a neutral reaction with methyl orange. Elimination of acid is stated to improve the printing quality.
