Abstract

A grained or pitted zinc or aluminium foil is coated with an aqueous solution of alkali silicate, such as sodium or potassium silicate, in concentration not exceeding about 5 per cent. and dried, to produce thereon an insoluble film possessing the characteristics of the grained surface. The coated foils are for use in preparation of lithographic printing plates.
