Abstract
A coating composition consists of a wholly aqueous solution containing water-glass and a complex compound of aluminium with an organic hydroxy acid e.g. citric, malic, lactic or tartaric acid, or a water-soluble salt thereof. Finely divided clay, e.g. kaolin, starch or synthetic resins may be added to the solution. In an example the coating solution is produced by neutralizing with caustic soda a solution prepared by dissolving aluminium sulphate and sodium tartrate in water, which solution is then added to water-glass solution.ALSO:A waterproof coating or adhesive for paper and cardboard is produced by application thereto of a wholly aqueous solution containing water-glass and a complex compound of aluminium with an organic hydroxy-acid, e.g. citric, malic, lactic, or tartaric acid, or a water-soluble salt thereof. Finely divided clay, e.g. kaolin, starch, or synthetic resins may be added to the solution. In an example, the coating solution is produced by neutralizing with caustic soda a solution prepared by dissolving aluminium sulphate and sodium tartrate in water, which solution is then added to water-glass solution.
