Abstract

707,057. Valves. VAILLANT, H., [trading as VAILLANT KOMMANDIT GES., J.]. Jan. 3, 1951, No. 212/51. Class 135 A control fitting in gas water heaters has an axially-movable main gas valve manually operated through a pin by a snap-action device. The gas valve 4a, Fig. 1, spring-loaded to open, abuts a rod 6 which abuts a push-rod 7, Fig. 3, carried by a spring-loaded damping cylinder 13 connected by links 22, to a crank 17. The crank handle 18 is snapped from its dotted position, in which the crank is held past its lower dead centre by the spring 15 so that the gas valve is opened, to its full line position in which the spring 15 closes the gas valve. The amount of opening of the valve is adjusted by a spring- loaded plate 25 abutting a flange 8 on the rod 6, the plate being guided by a rod 23 and adjusted by a screw 27. The screw 27 is also moved axially by a collar 30 engaging a rotary cam 31. The gas valve and snap-action device are carried in the horizontal part of a crosscasing 1, and a water deficiency safety gas valve 35 with its water-actuated diaphragm 39 is carried in the vertical part, the rod 6 being slotted to accommodate the gas valve spindle 37. In order to prevent stresses occurring in the pipe connections, a holder 42 supports the gas and water pipes 2, 51, respectively, while the control opening 53 in the casing is closed by a pot 54.
