Abstract
705,903. Slow-closing valves. PEGLERS, Ltd. June 28, 1951 [June 28, 1950], No. 16157/50. Class 135 A self-closing tap comprises a casing 10 with a discharge spout 12 and an extension 11 for the attachment of a supply pipe, and a head 14 detachably secured to the casing and carrying interiorly thereof a ported cylinder 15 which accommodates a piston 20 and an annular lift valve 21 and is closed at its lower end by a screw-threaded plug 23 which supports a coil spring 24 holding a small jumper valve 25 to its seat 26 in the piston, an axially movable spindle 19 extending through the head 14 and being adapted to open the valves in succession against the load of the spring 24. The piston 20 is so disposed in the cylinder 15 that the inlet ports 27 in the latter are closed before the valve 21 closes on its seating 22 whereby the initial closing movement is rapid and the final closing movement is retarded. The valve 21 is opened by the engagement of a shoulder 29 on the spindle with a reduced portion at the top of the piston. A reduced part at the lower end of the spindle passes through the piston 20 with clearance.
